I'm asking Sony/EMI to voluntarily release their copyright claim on Rev. Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech recording and make it public domain.
This petition is important because commercial use of this iconic speech contradicts Dr. King's speech, overall message and communal celebration of the 17-minute speech delivered on August 28, 1963. It is evident that Dr. King did not want companies to sell his speech since in December 1963, Dr. King sued Mister Maestro, Inc., and Twentieth Century Fox Records Company to stop the unauthorized sale of his "I have a Dream Speech".
If like myself, you are moved when you hear Dr. King's recording of his speech, then in honor of his legacy sign this petition demonstrating to SONY/EMI that they should voluntarily release their copyright. With your HELP, I am confident that EMI which states that it has a "culture of charitable giving" will provide the entire world with the ability to freely hear the voice and words of Dr. King's " I have a dream speech".
