Thank you all who have signed this petition to demand EA's refund regarding Battlefield 2042. We went from 700 to almost 120,000 supporters strong in only seven days.

To all those affected by this release, I stand firmly with you. I understand your frustration. I am working hard to get all of us justice.

I have recently been made aware that EA's EULA agreement may protect them from any class action lawsuits related to the game's terribly coded architecture. Given this, there still may be a solution.

Many gamers have seen a recurring theme with the introduction of iterative game development. Gamers will preorder games only to have them non-functional and missing expectations. Then, gaming studios meet their sales targets and could care less to update/fix their games (e.g., EA's earnings call regarding BF2042). From my point of view, this is due to the misalignment between the product managers and the developers. Product managers must listen to their developers, or else you have moments like this. Regardless, it does not matter who/how/why it happens. For the consumer- it affects you.

Broadly speaking, iterative development has improved the gaming industry overall. Games with minor issues could see patches in a matter of days. In the last few years, however, many studios have pushed iterative development to an extreme by releasing unfinished, broken games. These titles seem to invest most of their time with some of the most flashy and appealing advertisements, only to have their product miss consumer expectations.

The argument here isn't regarding consumer expectations of the entertainment quality, but the functional quality. It's one thing to not like a game, but for a game to not function properly?

Somehow, many gaming studios find it okay to advertise, promote, and release an unfinished game. Phenomenal job to the advertising and marketing teams, but what about the PRODUCT? Have many gaming studios turned into a snake-oil salesman to increase short-term profits? Has this anything to do with Wallstreet's quarterly profit expectations for an industry that needs long-term scope?

Regardless, you get the point. Currently, there are no rules or regulations prohibiting companies from releasing an alpha-stage quality game as their final product, from my understanding. The only consequence is a future-bottom line reduction in their profits. Given EA's latest earnings call, it seems as though they don't care about Battlefield anymore. What's their consequence of leaving 2042 as-is? They extended their deadlines on the expected fixes already and are considering making it free-to-play. EA and Dice released an unfinished product.

I will try my best to get your refunds. Hopefully, EA will see this petition and think, "let's do the right thing. We released a game that has too many problems".

To EA's executive board: I challenge you to do the right thing. Show consumers that you care about them. There are over 120K people who trusted you and want to see a change in your philosophy regarding Battlefield 2042.

-------------------------

Even though there is a chance I may not get your refunds, the point is to make a difference to improve society.

My mitigation strategy/solution:

If a class action is deemed unattainable, I plan to get a senator to draft legislation that protects consumers from games requiring a cost to play. In my view, this legislation will legally set the 'definition of done' for gaming products over a specific price point.

A set of policies, procedures, and requirements for games that are not 'free to play' should be set by law. Otherwise, we will constantly face some of our favorite gaming titles dying in the blink of an eye, like Battlefield.

For example, all game releases over $30 will need 'XYZ' parameters.

All in all, please keep sharing- even though we have reached our target, the more genuine signatures we get, the better chance we have in making a difference in the gaming industry. No more broken games.

Lastly, thank you to all who have helped promote this petition. We are looking to make a positive, impactful change in the gaming industry. Together we can make this happen. I'm very thankful for your platforms and wish you all major success in your future endeavors.
