Hello Tiny home and alternative housing supporters,
We are updating this petition because the Santa Rosa City Council will be meeting on November 14 to decide whether to continue accepting 5-year temporary housing permits for Tiny Homes. The original 5-year permits are also now beginning to expire, threatening to make people homeless.
See this story in the Sonoma Independent to learn more about this issue
We are asking the community to:
1. Ask the Santa Rosa City Council to codify tiny homes as ADU’s. This would allow them to stay in their current permitted locations indefinitely as long as other codes are met.
2. Ask the council to continue accepting temporary Tiny Home applications beyond the current sunset date. Staff has recommended that the city not accept any more applications after 2024.
If you are able to speak to council members on this issue please attend their next meeting on Tuesday November 14. The Resilient City Ordinance (Temporary Housing Code) proposal will be presented at or after 4PM. The Council typically allow speakers 3 minutes to provide their input. Location: City Hall, Council Chamber, 100 Santa Rosa Avenue, 95404. The Zoom option is no longer available so please plan to attend the meeting in person.
Additionally, we are invited to email public comment at any time directly to Christian at ccandelaria@srcity.org who is coordinating the Temp Housing Code project for the Santa Rosa Planning Department on into 2024.
The Sonoma Independent and Progressive Source have also been advocating to preserve and expand solar rights in the state.
Currently, the California Public Utilities Commission is set to vote for a dangerous proposed decision that will disincentivize solar being placed on apartments, schools, farms and any property with multiple meters. Farmers, school boards, and both housing and environmental groups across the state have come out in opposition to this issue, but the CPUC is poised to proceed regardless.
