SONG GIRLS FOREVER - Restore the Legendary "USC Song Girls" Title

SONG GIRLS FOREVER - Restore the Legendary "USC Song Girls" Title
The Issue
The "USC Song Girls" title carries a legacy spanning over 56 years. Established in 1967, the name signifies class, grace, and excellence. We are not a common collegiate cheerleading squad, our team is comprised of superbly talented, award winning female dancers who embody the Spirit of Troy. The Song Girl name, with its deep rooted Trojan history, is one of the most iconic symbols of our university. These student athletes are world famous ambassadors for USC and have inspired generations of young girls over the decades, instilling in them the dreams of one day becoming a Song Girl and carrying on this extraordinary legacy.
The Song Girls have historically been an all-girl dance team, much like women’s soccer and women’s basketball, established to empower women, honor female athletes, and provide a platform for female dancers to showcase their achievements, realize childhood dreams, and celebrate sisterhood and grace.
Recently the Song Girls, without any say in this matter, were renamed "Song Leaders”. Such an action strips the identity of Song Girls and disrespects the rich heritage of this iconic program. It challenges women's rights to be identified as girls for gender. It denies the platform for these extremely hardworking student athletes to represent female dancers, to shine and succeed in an all-girl group.
Let's raise our voices to honor the Song Girl legacy and reclaim the identity they have rightfully earned over the course of history. The Song Girls name matters. All-girl team should be respected.
Please stand with us in protecting the rights of our female student athletes and restoring their rightful title - sign this petition to bring back the USC Song Girl name.
