Every day, countless women risk their lives in the pursuit of their profession, prostitution. While it may seem taboo to some, to others it is a matter of being able to feed their families, or not being able to provide for them. The situations these women are placed into however are very unsafe for them and for their clients. STDs, assault, and political persecution plague the industry. In order to protect these women, the Minnesota State Legislature must pass a law that would legalize brothels, allowing a safe, legal place for prostitutes to practice their profession. Through proper regulation, not only would the prostitutes be able to have police protection and proper pay, but there would also be mandatory health screenings and condom usage, keeping the women and their clients healthy. This issue is very complex and is laid out in more detail in the attached essay.
