Please put a permanent end to the sale of PUPPIES from the back of utes and on the footpath in front of the Fernvale Markets.
The issue
The people who are breeding and selling these puppies are not registered with the SRC as "breeders" and that being so, they should be pursued and prosecuted so the practice of disposing of 'unwanted' animals at the Markets is stopped permanently. As the situation now stands, the footpaths in front of the Fernvale Markets are used every weekend by irresponsible people to dispose of their 'mistakes'. The fact that this method of selling puppies at the Markets is tolerated, establishes a 'mindset' with irresponsible dog owners that 'its no big drama we can just get rid of the pups at the Markets'. This venue requires more vigorous control so this 'mindset' is eliminated in our community. There have been many heart-breaking instances of extreme cruelty right at the entrance to the Fernvale Markets, where people cant help but walk past them : puppies near death from extreme worm infestation, puppies with their ribs showing and spindly little legs from malnourishment, puppies with scabs all over their heads and copious discharges from their eyes, tiny little white fluffy 5 week old puppies being sold out of a cardboard carton by an adolescent girl sitting in the gutter, in the full summer sun with no water available for the puppies, and them nearing a state of heat exhaustion. These are just a few of the many instances of cruelty that go on every weekend at the Fernvale Markets because you are not more vigilant in your pursuit of miscreant 'breeders' in the Somerset Region. We respectfully remind you that you are responsible for ensuring that all puppies sold in SRC are done so in accordance with your own Local Laws, and implore you to please as a matter of urgency do something about the situation at the Markets and continue your vigilance until this practice stops permanently.
