The Issue

Sofia the First: Royal Magic is becoming more like a stand-alone show rather than a sequel to Sofia the First.

  1. Everyone who has watched Sofia the First (Seasons 1-4) knows how much Sofia has grown, but in Royal Magic, it seems like she has forgotten many of her lessons she's learned. For example, in "Welcome to Charmswell," Sofia is quite competitive in winning, even though as shown in Tri-Kingdom Picnic and Lord of the Rink, she learns it's more important to make friendship rather than winning. Therefore she acts out of character when she directly refutes Prince Desmond thinking he would win. Another example is in Abracadazzle, where Sofia feels very insecure about her abilities to abracadazzle Miss Gigglesby. But as shown in The Mystic Isles subseries and Forever Royal, she is shown to have grown a lot in her confidence, and was daring to risk it all, no matter how the others thought (Forever Royal, King Roland and Queen Miranda). Sofia's actions of trying to be better than Desmond also is against her not-that-competitive side, and her insecurity over her own actions feels out of place. A similar theme was found in Give it a Twirl. Another point is an important lesson learned by Sofia (she should not brag that much), she forgot about it in "We are royal heroes" (song) of Zane the Hero (episode); even though they are focusing on Zane and a true hero. In the same episode, she broke many of her previous characteristics (that is not part of the moral of the story, such as slight competitiveness in Welcome to Charmswell and Abracadazzle, while she is fully helping Zane in this episode, focuses more on friends like in the original series. Many other issues exist with a "reset" of Sofia's character. I believe a way to solve it would be both having her teach her friends about the things she has learned multiple times. She can re-learn them again, but instead of a "new character," perhaps make it accidentally forgetting her lesson so she gets into some sort of trouble. I hope the series would have more character continuity between episodes.
  2. Many viewers greatly appreciated The Secret Library and The Mystic Isles subseries. I wish to petition to bring them back, along with more adventures that show Sofia's bravery. She can, of course, bring her new friends and learn things together along the way. Without these subseries, it feels like these are lost great episodes and a lost side of Sofia's personality. These are great subseries to show her responsibility and a good chance for younger audiences to learn them. (I understand that Disney would not like to need to explain the entire backstory of either subseries, but I believe it's sufficient to somewhat bring up a few of the important points, such as for the secret library, it can bring up about Aunt Tilly asking if she's ready to continue her storykeeping business, or Chrysta coming to tell Sofia about something important in the Ever Realm needs her help. I believe this both brings continuity to the series, giving returning audiences a bit of nostalgia, and more chances to teach audiences about challenge and adventure-related themes.

If you sign this petition, you are contributing to asking Disney for more in-character Sofia the First episodes as well as creating potentially better stories within the arcs.
