Sodexo Fires Workers For Being Pro-Union

The Issue

In early March Gary Snell, a Sodexo employee at Crew Stadium, became sick with Whooping Cough, a highly contagious sickness.  Knowing that it was unsafe to work around food while sick with a contagious illness, Gary did the right thing and called in sick.  Sodexo responded by firing Gary, ignoring his more than five years of dedicated service to the company. Soon after, Keith Vines was targeted because of his pro-union activity and fired as well. His firing was one day after Sodexo was investigated by the Health Department for unsanitary kitchen conditions, a health concern that workers brought to management's attention for months before. Other workers have also had their hours cut and have been refused full-time work despite years of dedication.

These are not isolated cases; Sodexo has systematically targeted pro-union employees across the U.S. and the globe. they have not only intimidated workers across the globe, but has in many cases blatantly fired workers. Gary and Keith were targeted by Sodexo for openly supporting their fellow co-workers in forming a union.  Sodexo is the 21st largest employer in the world with profits over one billion annually, but pays poverty wages to many of its employees.  In addition to poverty wages, Sodexo has also committed human rights violations all over the world:

Gary and Keith’s fight for justice and a fair job is a struggle that should touch the hearts of all those that are concerned with workers rights at home, and human rights abroad.  Stand with Gary and Keith to hold Sodexo accountable and stand with justice!  Demand that Sodexo stop retaliating against workers for union activity.
