Upgrade the crosswalk on Cooper Lake Road

Upgrade the crosswalk on Cooper Lake Road
The Issue
Today, may 14th 2021, a pedestrian who was in a motorized wheelchair was struck and killed by a vehicle while using the crosswalk that crosses Cooper Lake Road, prior to the intersection of Mavell Road and Cooper Lake Road, and within the school zone of Nickajack Elementary school. My fiance and I saw the scene, which must have been moments after it happened. A scene that should never have happened in the first place and one that will never be forgotten.
I am making this petition so that the crosswalk gets upgraded. With bigger and brighter signs, lights, and most importantly an over head stop light that flashes and changes red to stop the flow of traffic so that the pedestrian may cross safely.
Secondly, I would like the crosswalk to be named in honor of the person who tragically lost their life.
One life lost is one too many. We the people of Smyrna have the ability to voice our concerns for the safety of others. We need to make sure that our voices are heard and that the voice of the poor soul who can no longer speak on their behalf is heard. This is our chance to show the city council that the community would like change, so that we never lose a son, a daughter, a parent, a loved one, or a best friend to something of this nature again.
