Our #1 concern is the health of students, teachers, and staff. Wildfire can cause many long-term effects on the lungs and heart. We are also very concerned about the teachers who are pregnant. Therefore, cancelling school until the air quality reaches a safe and healthy level.

A recent fire in Butte County, burning 18,000 acres is now increasing at a rate of roughly 80 football fields (1,280 ft) per minute. Officials have issued low and unhealthy air quality and smoke warnings in California. Wildfire smoke contains particles from burning vegetation, substances, and materials, mixed with poisonous gases. Exposure to the smoke can inflict eye damage, cause chest pain, rapid heartbeat or wheezing, sore throats, headaches, runny noses, tiredness, fatigue, and even nonfatal/fatal heart attacks. People with chronic heart disease, lung disease, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are more prone to have serious health effects from the smoke. This especially harmful to elderly people, pregnant women, and children diagnosed with chronic heart or lung diseases. According to the EPA, people may even experience such as bronchitis due to the exposure of poisonous from the smoke.
