Respected Minister Mrs.Smriti Irani,

I seek your attention towards appointment of new Director to NIT Warangal vide advertisement number F.No.34 -8/2015 – TS.III.

It is my duty as a stake holder of this institute to bring to your notice numerous complaints of financial and administrative misuse of power at NIT Warangal (NITW) by the current Director Prof. T S Rao. Following the mal administration at NITW a preliminary enquiry committee constitution was called by the previous Chairman of NITW Dr.Krishna Ella. Till date the enquiry committee has not seen light and we have learnt that the current Director is seeking another 5 year term as NITW Director.

As NIT Warangal is the mentor for NIT Andhra Pradesh too it becomes even more important that the present Director who happens to be an alumnus of NITW should not be given another 5 year extension until the enquiry committee gives a clean chit over allegations of corruption, maladministration, damaging the modesty of woman SC/ST faculty member, harassment of SC/ST faculty etc.

Also, in the last 10 years NIT Warangal institutional excellence has taken a back seat because of 10 year mal administration of Directors Prof. Y V Rao (who incidentally was suspended by MHRD after repeated protests) and Prof.T.S.Rao. Dataquest-IDC-Nasscom survey ranked NIT Warangal number 7 in 2005 way above IIT Roorkee. The same agency ranked NITW 15 for the year 2012. India Today ranked NITW number 10 in 2006 and in 2014 it is ranked 17 indicating a downfall in rating across the surveys by different agencies. The recent NIRF rankings has ranked NIT Warangal at No.28 (All India) and 7th among NITs indicating a steep fall in standards.

NITW is at a crucial junction and is in need of a leader as the Director for the next 5 year term. Therefore it is our earnest request on behalf of NITW alumni fraternity to the Hon. Minister to appoint a person of integrity and administrative acumen as next NITW Director.
