The neighborhood of Wilmington needs your help. We have 5 schools, ranging from early education to high school, located within a one mile radius of 3 smoke shops. Each one possing a saftey problem to children traveling to and from school.

We have written the below letter to elected officials in hopes of relocating said smoke shops, listed in the letter: 

To Whom It May Concern, 

We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members of the Wilmington community, are writing to formally petition against the operation of Prince Smoke Shop, located at p 350 W. Pacific Coast Highway #H, Wilmington, Ca 90744, and #2 Smokes, located at 128 W. Pacific Coast Hwy, Wilmington, CA 90744, Wilmington Smoke Shop And Mini Market, located at 111 W. Pacific Coast Hwy #C, Wilmington, Ca 90744, due to its proximity -less than an one mile radius- of 5 local schools. 

The presence of so many smoke shops in such close proximity to educational institutions raise serious concerns about the potential influence on minors and the general safety and well-being of students. This includes the risk of increased exposure to tobacco, vaping products and other substances that may be marketed or accessible within the shop.

We respectfully request that local authorities and appropriate regulatory agencies review the business license and zoning compliance of this establishment.  We urge immediate action to either relocate the above listed smoke shops or take the necessary steps to enforce stricter guidelines for businesses operating near schools.  

Our community is committed to protecting the health and safety of our youth and belive the location of these businesses undermine those efforts

We know this problem is not unique to Wilmington. However, with no ordinance restricting smoke shops from operating near schools, this is a great place to start, with the hopes that creating such an ordinance will positively impact all of Los Angeles.
