Dear History Building Supporters -
Tonight and tomorrow SMMUSD is holding a series of meetings to discuss historic resources at campuses other than Samohi. This needs to be done at some point, but not now with the History Building still here.
So, please log in the each zoom that you can and comment in the chat. You can speak too, but putting the comments in the chat creates a public record of the community comments. Set an alarm for each hour and just join the zoom and comment in the chat. If that is too much, please do this in at least one zoom.

3. HERE IS WHAT TO PASTE INTO CHAT (you can write your own or speak too):
Halt demolition of the Samohi History Building now! The community has never been consulted for Samohi and over 6,200 people have signed the petition to Save the History Building. The District has known for a year that it doesn't need more classrooms due to declining enrollment so there is no reason to tear the History Building down for new classrooms we don't need. Join the Community Town Hall to discuss adaptive reuse instead. It's not too late.
It is iconic as WPA architecture and as Dawson High in Rebel Without a Cause. Its placement atop Prospect Hill commands an ocean view with natural breezes that should be preserved for generations to come. Not only does it cost more to demolish and replace with new construction, it is a terrible example to set for our society by failing to adaptively reuse it as a library and student center. The greenest building is the one that’s already built. As for the other campuses, before these meetings are held, the consultant needs to gather all of the historic reports and information on each campus, post them on the district website for viewing, and then it will be appropriate to have this conversation. It is not productive to have this meeting prior to background information being presented for prior review.
