Dear Families in the SMMUSD District,

Hello, I am a student at Santa Monica High School and have a lot of worries with school and covid right now. I'm hoping with enough signatures from parents and students who are worried about the increase in covid cases and the new variant we can convince the board to close down the school for at least a month where student quartine which can clear everyone. For the past week, I've noticed fewer and fewer students in school. On Friday almost all my classes had about 50% of the students there even so with this we can encourage students to get the booster and stay safe. If we close down it will only be for a few weeks to clear all the students who are sick, leading to fewer students being set back from not going to school. Once we have at least 500 signatures I will draft up an email for Dr.Sheldon and the SMMUSD board with all these issues. It's a very difficult time and I am sure the school doesn't want to close down and the students don't want to go back online. Now is the time where we have to before we end up missing the rest of our school year. As a senior in high school, I wanna go to our prom, I want to walk across the stage with my friends, and I want to be able to do our grad night. I know this is difficult for some families but the school has provided us with our chrome books and a few families hot spots, in about a week if school is still going on or if we hit over 500 families that signed I will bring it up to the principal.
