Remember the litigation against the High-Speed Rail Authority to study an alternative route? The final EIR has been released and the city wants a platform with no parking, a portable station building, and no covered platforms. Even worse, because there are no existing tracks at F St and Golden State Avenue. This temporary station requires the construction of close to a billion dollars of track with no actual station building in Bakersfield!
This temporary station will be operational for up to 15 years ... with the following fine print. "Planned redevelopment surrounding the F Street site as described in the Bakersfield Vision Plan may influence the need to construct the full buildout station"
In other words, if development doesn't occur around this platform, they are not committed to building a full station ... ever.
Please help us stop this madness and get a station that Bakersfield deserves and was promised next to Amtrak.
