Save NY's Small Businesses - Vote for NY Assembly Bill A10226B
The Issue
On March 27, 2020, New York State Senate introduced Assembly Bill No. A10226B. This proposed legislation, if passed and signed into law, will extend insurance policy’s business interruption coverage to provide "coverage for contingent business interruption during a period of a declared state emergency due the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic". The proposed legislation also provides that "Any clause or provision of a policy ... which allows the insurer to deny coverage based on a virus ... shall be null and void".
Insurance industry is vigorously opposing any legislation that may help businesses get reimbursed for their business income interruption claims. This bill has been introduced on March 27th, but as of the date of this petition it has not been voted on nor is there a proposed date for a vote. If you are a business owner or care about local small businesses sign this petition to let the NY State Senate know that New Yorkers support Assembly Bill No. A10226B and that insurance companies cannot buy their way out of this.
Insurance industry in the US has historically been the second most generous/aggressive industry in lobbying for their interests
Insurance industry has spent almost $3bn on lobbying in the past 2 decades
Insurance industry has directly spent over $155M on lobbying in 2019
Insurance industry has been actively lobbying to oppose any legislation that may expose them to liability for COVID-19 related losses
Local businesses are the backbone of the local economy. We create local jobs and pay taxes locally. We live and vote locally. Lets tell our local politicians that no matter how much insurance companies spend on lobbying it will be our vote that will matter in the next elections. Not their money.
Please support your local NY State Assembly Members who support A10226B:
Patricia Fahy, Judy Griffin, Aravella Simotas, Harvey Epstein, Joseph Lentol, Michael G. Miller, Stacey Pheffer Amato, Tremaine Wright, Jeffrey Dinowitz, Felix Ortiz, Fred Thiele, Michael Cusick, Didi Barrett, William Colton, Nicole Malliotakis, William Magnarelli, Charles Fall, Mathylde Frontus, Deborah Glick, Amy Paulin, Nily Rozic, Billy Jones, Jonathan Jacobson,
