Fight Alberta VLT shutdown double standard for small businesses

Fight Alberta VLT shutdown double standard for small businesses

The Issue

AGLC gave small pubs and restaurants less than 12 hours notice that they will no longer have use of their VLT’s if they have less than 15 units in their establishments. Pubs with 15 or more are considered “gaming centres” and can stay operational. What many people may not know is how crucial the revenue that comes from VLT’s is to whether a business can survive in today’s COVID restrictions. They  keep the doors open in most cases and to lose that revenue a business is surely to face closure.

If the true motive and intention of AGLC is to keep people safe and healthy, then why does it make more sense to have casinos and places that have 15 or more on and operational rather than places that have say, 11 VLT’s? What is the difference?!
Why do all those small pubs have to parish because they have less?

AGLC gave zero time for establishments to come up with plans to increase safety measures, to beef up sanitization, or whatever is necessary in order to keep VLT’s on. It just makes absolutely no sense as to how they believe a place with 18 VLT’s is deemed more safe than a place with 11. What increased safety measures have they implemented in order to be deemed safer?!  If the government truly cared about small businesses the way they say they do, this would have been dealt with in a different way.

Sign now to help fight the double standard happening in Alberta. Sign to give the small guys a fighting chance! Sign because if we don’t fight back now, small businesses will surely be closed within the next coming weeks.
