The Issue

Didn't we make a promise to grow together, to love each other right?

"Yixing fainted 3 times in public this year (16th Chinese Music Awards, Go Fighting set, Incheon Airport) for overworking himself and going back and forth to different countries for work almost everyday (he practically lived in airports!)

Jongin injured himself while practicing and didn't get to perform in MVs (Lotto/Louder and Dancing King), music shows and concerts for almost 2 months.

EXO sleeping for only an hour or two then waking up early to work again even until dawn.
Almost all members were reported injured and sick this year, and yet rest was never an option.

EXO almost killed themselves for working non-stop, sacrificing sleep and skipping meals, dealing with irrational hates left and right, but they can still smile at everyone and assures us that they're okay even though they looked exhausted to bones."-Comment of dianexoyehet xx, an EXO-L

Stated above, is the story of the most recent events that have unfolded this year. It was part of a comment made to encourage other fans to stream the korean superstar boyband, EXO's, latest official comeback MV: Monster

Needless to say, this year has been for a fact- monstrous- for the health and well-being of the nine human beings of the group.

Besides those evident signs of grave working conditions that these people have to go through, there are even rumors that certain members were starved in order to create that "perfect body image" for the fans. Rumors. But hey, it's not new as they say.

It's nothing, right?

But is it right?

One way to answer that question is to put ourselves in their shoes. Think and try to feel what they endure.

Not a very endearing way to live, yes?

I know, it's not.

The next questions would be, since they say it comes with the job, but should it really?

Is it really necessary to push yourself to the brink of death just to pursue a dream? Shouldn't a dream build you, and not destroy you?

I know this isn't something limited to EXO. The industry is, in itself, filled with so much things that would make you question where is the rule of law and the supposed bodies to protect the human rights of kids joining this industry hoping to dream.

But let's not get into the (il?)legalities of industry practices first. That needs extensive study, and by the time it might get done, what else could happen besides a member fainting three times due to overexhaustion? Would we wait for that to happen??

Would a daesang even matter when the worst happens?

This is my petition, as a fellow supporter, admirer and...fellow human being to all EXO-Ls.

I know it's impractical now that tours are scheduled already.

But can anyone join me in asking SMEntertainment for a proper break for EXO after this Monster era has closed? Can this be the Exordium for proper rest and working conditions?

No more unhealthy diets at inhuman periods of time, but promote a program that will keep the group as a true representative of health instead (since we know how image-oriented this industry is)?

No more unforgiving, over-exhausting schedules at inhuman long periods of time. Certain projects will require overtime of course, but to have the entire year jam-packed that their artists can't actually have time for proper rest and recovery

C'mon guys. It's the 21st century. Surely SMEnt can pioneer in setting the record for being the company that doesn't present "innovative" works of art and music, but also for progressive operational management that take into account the lives of each employee. Improved Time management, to be simple. (Look up the latest research hours of work and productivity. Overworking is indeed a thing that is nothing but counterproductive.)

EXO-L!!

After working so hard to get that daesang, why not be the fandom that will go down in history that worked hard to protect their beloved people- the 9 members- not only against sasaengs and scandals but also as the fandom that made it clear:

We love these 9 human beings who inspired us so much, to the point that we can put our own personal desires for a next comeback, if it meant each one of them get the rest they need, no matter how long they truly need it.

EXO-L! It might not work, this petition! But I hope that this can be the stepping stone for us to push for healthier working conditions for our beloved artists! Not just EXO, but hopefully for the kids who will follow them, for the dreamers! Let us be the beginning! Let this be the beginning!

Didn't we make a promise to grow together, to love each other right? EXO & EXO-L?

For the people who go beyond limits for the sake of the hearts of others! EXO-L! Let's give that back too! Let's plant the seeds for better tomorrow for everyone~

Saranghaja! LET"S LOVE! THANK YOU.

PS. This is something I'd love to share with all fandoms, for the love of each artist and group. Feel free to get sign :) Thank you!
