Slow Down Traffic to Preserve the Historic Character of Fisher Park

The Issue

We the undersigned residents of Fisher Park call on the city of Greensboro to establish and clearly post a 25mph speed limit throughout this special city designated historic neighborhood. Built in 1901, Fisher Park has a tight grid, narrow streets and houses close to the curb—all characteristics that make it attractive and vulnerable to the impact of high-speed traffic. As an extension of Downtown, the neighborhood and its park attract numerous pedestrians each day, including lunching workers, families with children, dog walkers, and tourists.  All these pedestrians are endangered by high-speed traffic, including the many drivers who cut through the neighborhood to get to and from Wendover Ave. and Downtown.  Historic districts in other cities, including New Bern, NC and Beaufort, SC, have lowered speed limits to 25mph. Please protect our walking neighbors and visitors and preserve the character and historic experience of Fisher Park for everyone.
