Petition for Traffic Calming Measures on Stafford Blvd, Aventura Subdivision – Gulf Shores, AL
To:City of Gulf Shores Public Works Department, Mayor and City Council

Subject: Request for Speed Tables or Stop Signs on Stafford Blvd
We, the undersigned residents of the Aventura Subdivision, particularly those living along Stafford Blvd, are petitioning for the installation of speed tables and/or additional stop signs to address dangerous speeding on our street.

The posted speed limit on Stafford Blvd is 25 mph, but vehicles frequently exceed this limit, creating unsafe conditions for residents, pedestrians, and especially children. This has become an urgent safety concern for our families and community.

Community Concerns
Many of us have young children who are learning to ride their bikes, play outside, and walk to visit friends. Despite our efforts to supervise them closely, the excessive speeding poses a constant and terrifying risk. It is only a matter of time before a preventable accident occurs if nothing is done.

Stafford Blvd is also used as a shortcut between Highway 59 and Oak Road, leading to significant through traffic from non-residents who have little regard for neighborhood safety.

Proposed Solutions
We respectfully request that the City of Gulf Shores install speed-reducing measures such as:

Speed tables at strategic intervals along Stafford Blvd, and/or
Stop signs at key intersections within the subdivision.
These measures would force traffic to slow down rather than relying solely on enforcement, which is not a sustainable or realistic long-term solution given city resource constraints.

Our subdivision’s layout includes multiple loops and alternate routes, meaning that emergency responders could still navigate efficiently by choosing streets without speed tables—minimizing any potential delay to public safety services.

Our Goal
We are not asking for unnecessary barriers or inconvenience—only for a safe neighborhood where our families can thrive. We urge our city officials to take swift action to protect our residents before there is a tragic, life-changing injury or loss.
