The Issue

Living in a village should be peaceful and safe, however, this is not the case. We have put up with HS2 traffic thundering through the village for many years,  yet it is in the last six months - maybe coinciding with the new prison construction? - that four of my pets have been killed.

My children walk to see their friends on the narrow pavements and walk to and wait at the (very much hidden) school bus stop where the traffic really accelerate (and where all of our cats have all been hit).

Hearing back from  people in the village in a traffic survey I shared on facebook (here if you missed filling it in) - nearly everyone reported accidents or near misses and want traffic calming in the village.

Speeding is not just an inconvenience—it’s a life-threatening issue that impacts all of us in the village. Statistics show that nearly 37% of road accident fatalities in rural areas are caused by speeding, according to the Department for Transport.

We have a responsibility to protect our residents, pets, and especially our children from this constant threat. Therefore, we are calling on the local council and law enforcement agencies to take immediate action by installing speed bumps/traffic calming and setting up clear speed limit signs throughout our village.

Additionally, implementing regular traffic patrols and employing speed cameras could significantly deter reckless driving and create a safer environment for everyone. Other communities that have applied these measures have seen a remarkable 50% decrease in traffic-related incidents, according to a study by the European Transport Safety Council.

Our village deserves safe streets, where our children can walk safely. We need your support to make this happen! Please join me in urging our local authorities to prioritize our safety by signing this petition. Let's save lives and ensure our village roads are safe for everyone.
