Sloulin Field Elementary Re-Naming

Sloulin Field Elementary Re-Naming
The Issue
Our small town of Williston, North Dakota is embarking on a new journey as we plan to build a new elementary school on the previous site of our beloved Sloulin Field airport. This airport has been an integral part of our community, serving us faithfully over the years. However, it was recently relocated, leaving behind an aura of nostalgia in the area it used to be. The airport might be gone, but its memories linger.
As our very own stepping stone towards progress, the plot of land that once was home to our Sloulin Field airport will now hold our new elementary school. In an effort to honor our past while progressing forwards, we are passionately proposing that the school be named "Sloulin Field Elementary School". We would like to also propose that the mascot pay homage to the fallen soldier, Wesley Sloulin, who was the first military pilot in North Dakota to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross Award, by having the mascot be along the lines of, "Flyers," "Bombers," etc.
Remember, our past is what shapes us. We owe it to our ancestors, our community, and most importantly, our children to acknowledge and honor the history of Williston. Naming our new educational institution after the historic airport would serve as a constant reminder of our roots and our journey.
Our shared respect and admiration for our local heritage will instill in our children a sense of belonging, pride and responsibility towards the place we all call home. Imagine our kids going to 'Sloulin Field Elementary', learning not only educational lessons but also the rich history of their town - and the people who helped get us here.
Without forgetting our beloved Sloulin Field, let us write a new chapter of growth in the same book. Please join us in petitioning to name our new school "Sloulin Field Elementary". Your support is everything. Sign the petition today.
