In an effort to address "overcapacity elementary schools in the Justice HS pyramid"  the Fairfax County School Board has recommended moving students from the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood out of our neighborhood school of Sleepy Hollow Elementary to bus them over to Beech Tree Elementary.

Neither Sleepy Hollow  Elementary nor Beech Tree Elementary has an overcrowding issue.  Removing our children from Sleepy Hollow Elementary will drop the student capacity to 73% while at the same time overcrowd Beech Tree Elementary to 99% capacity.  The long-term ramifications of such a move will have significant negative effects on our community, the Sleepy Hollow Elementary School Community and even the Beech Tree Community. 

Not only does it disrupt the peaceful enjoyment that we have relied on by being anchored to a neighborhood school, but it also disrupts the investments we have made into our community, our school, and our neighborhoods.  In no way does the school board recommendation alleviate any overcrowding issue.  Instead, it creates new overcrowding issues at the expense of our families and neighborhood. 

This boundary change must not move forward.
