Boxing fans rage over Callum Smith vs John Ryder decision - ‘biggest robbery I’ve seen’

Callum Smith beat John Ryder on points at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on Saturday night to retain his world super-middleweight titles.

However, the manner of victory was highly controversial, as many believe the scorecards were too favourable towards Smith, who looked sub-par.

Despite many believing Ryder had nicked the fight by a couple of rounds, the judge’s scorecards were read out heavily in Smith’s favour.

The scores were 117-111, 116-112, 116-112 all in favour of Smith, who retained his world titles and now looks set to go on and fight Canelo Alvarez next year.

Fight fans were enraged with the decision and took to Twitter to question how it had been scored so wide.

At a point, the word ‘Robbery’ was the number one trending topic on the social media platform.

Heavyweight fighter Dave Allen led the complaints against the decision, branding it ‘up there’ with the worst scoring he’s ever seen.

“9-3 Smith f**k boxing thats up there with the worst i’ve ever seen i’m disgusted. The three judges there honestly want to be sat down and held accountable for that.”

“Biggest robbery I’ve ever seen,” one wrote.

“Farce,” another wrote.

Another posted: “Absolute joke Ryder won that hands down.”

One posted: “Embarrassing yet again. Boxing is ruined.”

One furious fan also changed Smith’s Wikipedia page to edit his boxing record, writing: “Obviously lost.” next to the manner of victory.

What more apart from a knockout did Ryder need to do to win that fight. When Smiths own fans are saying he was beat that must tell you something. Give John Ryder what he deserves but giving him a rematch against Smith to see who the Real Champ is.
