Last night, Jai Arrow played his final NRL game after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

It was meant to be an incredibly special moment. Jai was running out for his 100th and final game for the Rabbitohs, surrounded by his teammates, family and fans.

But for those of us watching on Sky Sport NZ, we missed it.

Right as Jai was making his final walkout, Sky cut to a Betcha betting ad. By the time the coverage came back, the moment was over.

Sky has apologised and said it was a scheduling mistake. Obviously mistakes happen, but this wasn’t just a normal part of a footy game. This was the final walkout of a player whose career has been taken away from him by MND.

So rather than just leaving it at an apology, we’d like to see something good come from it.

We’re asking Sky Sport NZ to donate the commercial value of that advertising break to Motor Neurone Disease New Zealand.

We’d also love to see Betcha match the donation.

This isn’t about attacking Sky or Betcha. It’s about taking a pretty horrible mistake and turning it into something positive.

We can’t get that moment back for the NZ fans who missed it, but we can make sure something worthwhile comes from it.
