So the hard work looks like it is eventually paying off, because yesterday we went to meet the senior staff at Sky.
We met with Marianne and her colleagues from Sky TV department who deal with the TV products, services and accessibility. We were assured that Sky, personally, are aware of the issue and that they are going to work on it. The first stages which will be taking place in the first few months are planning how to upgrade the platform to be able to handle the subtitle files and become more accessible. So Sky are doing a 'road map' to plan the upgrade. First of all the catch up channels from Sky will be upgraded first and will start to be compatible with subtitles. Then NowTV will become more accessible and have a platform that's compatible. Once NowTV is done, Sky Go app / website will then be more accessible and start to have subtitles. Alongside with the above steps, Sky will be working with other broadcasters, such as the BBC, ITV etc... and make sure that their distribution platforms (the system that sends content to Sky OnDemand) is compatible with Sky's new platform and can handle the subtitle file. Once all the systems and platforms are compatible, upgraded and completed, they will then start to submit the changes to the set top boxes in Summer 2016. So whilst we won't see any changes until next year, we will be kept to date on their progress and knowing that they are doing something behind the scenes.
I hope you find this useful and knowing that there will eventually be subtitles on most Sky TV services.
Regards,
Jamie
