Skewen FC vs CTC - A place to call Home

Skewen FC vs CTC - A place to call Home
The Issue
Skewen Football Club is home to over 250 local children (boys and girls). For them, football is not just a game—it is where friendships are formed, confidence is built, and a lifelong love of being active begins. It is where children learn teamwork, respect, resilience, and a sense of belonging to their community. It is embedded within the clubs motto - "Football, Fun, For Everyone".
Yet right now, many of these children do not have a local place they can truly call home to play their matches.
Skewen Park is one of the most accessible and suitable green spaces in our community, but it is currently unavailable for organised grassroots football. This means children who live just minutes away are unable to enjoy a few hours of football at weekends in a safe, familiar environment—often forcing families to travel further afield or preventing some children from taking part at all.
Every child deserves the chance to run, play, and be part of a team close to home. Regular physical activity is essential for children’s physical and mental wellbeing, helping to build healthy habits that last a lifetime. For many families, a local park is the difference between a child being able to participate or being left on the sidelines.
Skewen FC is not asking to take the park away from the community. We are asking to share it. The club proposes using a small, designated area of the park for limited hours at weekends, carefully scheduled to minimise disruption to other park users. The club is also committed to helping maintain the area and working closely with local authorities to ensure the park remains welcoming and accessible for everyone.
This is about more than football. It is about investing in our children, supporting healthy lifestyles, and strengthening community spirit. A park filled with children playing sport is a sign of a thriving, caring community.
We are asking our community and local decision-makers to come together and support this simple, positive proposal. With cooperation and goodwill, Skewen Park can remain a shared space while also giving our young people the opportunity they deserve.
Please sign this petition to help give Skewen’s children a local place to play, grow, and belong. Your support can help create lasting memories, healthier futures, and a stronger community.
