SK Innovation has promised to achieve net zero before 2050 and reduce Scope 3 emissions from its energy and chemical business.

The company already publishes emissions data. In 2025, it reported more than 22 million metric tons of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and approximately 171 million metric tons of Scope 3 emissions.

But SK Innovation’s reporting boundary has changed following corporate restructuring and its merger with SK E&S. This makes it difficult to compare current emissions with the company’s original 2019 baseline and determine whether its climate targets remain on track.

Promises are not enough. Progress must be measurable.

We ask SK Innovation to:

1. Publish an annual table showing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, year-over-year changes, and progress against a clearly restated 2019 baseline.
2. Report project-level progress at Ulsan CLX, including fuel-switching projects, investment completed, expected emissions reductions, and completion dates.
3. Release a detailed CCUS roadmap by December 31, 2027, distinguishing planned capture capacity from carbon actually captured, transported, and stored.
4. Obtain independent verification of progress toward its 2030 Scope 3 target and explain how the target applies to the company’s current organizational structure.

SK Innovation already has the data. Now it must show whether its investments and projects are producing real emissions reductions.
