Recall U.K. Parliament from recess

The Issue

COVID19 is still rampant in the UK and we must prepare for the winter flue season to bring a second wave.

UK has until October 2020 to negotiate a deal with the EU about our future relationship.

Both these issues have a huge impact on people’s lives and need careful consideration by MPs whose job is to act in the best interest of the country.

Parliament is in recess from 22 July to 1 September, which means decisions which have wide ranging effect on the country will be made without the input of our elected representatives.

I believe that this is a period during which consultation and debate in Parliament are of vital importance. I call on government and the Speaker to recall Parliament for a few sittings during recess before decisions are taken with regards to a deal with the EU or changes to institutions due to COVID or BREXIT. The UK is a Parliamentary democracy and the executive should account to the House before momentous changes are introduced. MPs are elected to act in the best interest of the country and are the link between the government and their constituents. This is not the right time for MPs to leave their “posts” to go into recess.

The people need to know that their interests are represented at such times of crisis.
