My baby brother, Dakota Sun Bear Heels Sr, was shot 3x's. 2 in the abominable area and 1x in the back. The shooter remains free because he claimed self defense, but failed to report to the police the 3rd shot to the back! Minnehaha County in Sioux Falls, SD claims this is an on going investigation but why has nothing been done about it? This happened in January of 2020, we buried my brother in February. Calls have been made to the police department or the "detective" whom says they are "investigating" but no calls have been returned. My brother was native american and unarmed, sticking up for a female that was arguing with the shooter. Mind you not the shooter was apprehended but released because he lied saying it was self defense and that he only shot 2xs when my brother was shot 3x's. and from my understanding a shot in the back is not self defense. I am baffled at the fact the shooter was even released, until it was further investigated. Now the shooter is no longer in the state of South Dakota! My brother was a father to 2 little boys, a loving son, and had made a future for himself in the music industry. He had so much to look forward to. I am frusterated with the fact no justice has been served yet and I am not trying to make this a racial thing but I feel like Dakota Sr is being swept under the rug because he is native american. No one in minnehaha county from my understanding does not want to take the case, that breaks my heart and our family is in need of justice!
