Support Better & Humane Animal Control in Siouxland.

Support Better & Humane Animal Control in Siouxland.
The Issue
For years there have been complaints about Sioux City Animal control from concerned animal lovers. Recently a bid was was up and City Council elected not to review bids fairly on a scoring system that tilted the bidding process in the incumbent’s favor even though there was a great deal of concern and the bid would cost tax payers an addition $64k
We think that no matter what the bid is for all citizens deserve their RFP to be reviewed carefully and fairly to make for a better Siouxland.
Amanda Johnson put forth an excellent bid that is focused on the humane treatment of animals, fair pay for employees, and saving the taxpayers money.
Amanda has worked with animals for over 20 years. Her first job was at an animal hospital where she eventually became a Vet Tech. She would later gain experience in law enforcement. With her combined experience in both, she was an excellent volunteer for Sioux City Animal Control for 5 years.
When she wasn’t working for animals, she worked at her family’s company which has been in Siouxland for decades. Amanda has always held a leadership role she knows our community and how to do business in it.
Her father is an avid sportsman that raised his girls to love and appreciate all wildlife. It is not surprise that Amanda became licensed to rehabilitate dozens of animals such as birds, squirrels, and raccoons. She does this passionately and all on her own time and dime.
I was thrilled when I learned she had a bid for Animals Control because I genuinely could not think of a person more fit for the job. The status quo has not been efficient, humane, nor has it tackled our community’s animal problems at the source. I could continue on about all of the issues with the system in place but I would much rather elevate Amanda’s ideas and have them heard. Unfortunately, she has not had that opportunity because the city did not give her the opportunity to present her case or hear her ideas. 4 people in a 3-1 vote dismissed her proposal without considering it.
It is not fair that 4 people could make a decision for our entire community. I am not asking that you sign this petition to grant Amanda the bid, I’m asking for your support in giving her the opportunity to present her case and let City Council know that all Siouxlanders deserve the right to have their voices heard and to have the opportunity to better their community.
