Tonight, I lost my six month old, German Shepherd puppy to animal control. I arrived home to animal control with my happy puppy on a leash. I was informed she ran up to a neighbor walking a small dog. The animal control officer said he was labeling her as "high risk," because the neighbor felt "threatened" by my puppy. He said he was taking her away immediately. My pup was tried, convicted, and sentenced, all based on my neighbor's feeling. She now has to live the rest of her life in a six feet by ten feet cage, wear a muzzle whenever she is outside, and if she is walked, has to be on a leash no longer than six feet. She did not visibly harm any human, nor any dog. She walked with the animal control officer wagging her tail! I should have received a warning before my dog and best friend was taken from me. I should have had the opportunity to fix this issue, instead of my dog being condemned to punishment for the rest of her days, simply based on a small dog owner's fear of my rambunctious pal. I deserve another chance, and more importantly, so does she.
