Sims Caution/Traffic Light Petition

Sims Caution/Traffic Light Petition
The Issue
Residents of Union County, I come to you and request that you stand with me and sign this petition for a caution light or motion activated traffic light to be installed in front of Sims Middle School. This area is extremely dangerous in the mornings and afternoons during school traffic. There have been multiple incidents of wrecks and even fatalities in this area. My husband, Cole Stanley is the School Resource Officer at Sims Middle School. Every single morning, I am terrified that he will not come home to me or our two boys. He faces a constant danger from drivers speeding through the school zone and ignoring his signals. There have been numerous instances where he has almost been hit. Adding another officer or police vehicle in this area is not going to solve this problem. This is not just a risk to him, but also to the safety of our children and the whole school community.
The safety of our students, staff, and Officer Stanley should not be compromised because of careless driving. That's why it's crucial for Union, SC to install a caution light or a motion-activated traffic light in front of Sims Middle School. This simple addition could significantly reduce speeding, increase driver awareness, and ensure safer passage for everyone.
Statistics indicate that school zones with traffic control measures see a marked decrease in accidents and near-misses. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, properly implemented school zone traffic lights can reduce fatal crashes by nearly 20%. Our children deserve this level of safety.
Residents of Union, SC, let us unite and urge our local authorities to prioritize the safety of our school community. By signing this petition, you're advocating for a safer environment for our children, school staff, and community officers, such as Officer Stanley, as they ensure our children’s safety every day.
Please sign this petition to demand the installation of traffic safety lights at Sims Middle School. Together, we can make a difference and save lives. Thank you for your support.
