Resolve FGUA High Water Rates for Pasco County

The Issue

Below was taken from a Tampa Bay Times article by C.T. Bowen 12/22/2016

$149.29: Monthly water and sewer bill for using 6,000 gallons of water in the FGUA-owned utility system formerly run by Lindrick Service Corp. in west Pasco, the most expensive rates in the county.

$51.85: Monthly water and sewer bill for using 6,000 gallons of water in the city of Dade City, the cheapest rates in the county.

We agree with State Senator Wilton Simpson, “This is ridiculous. This is completely ridiculous. For the notion that on one side of the street you can pay a percentage of what someone on the other side of the street is paying and we, as a State, condone that.”

While many of those of us are strapped with these FGUA rates, Pasco County is providing water/sewer to brand new developments at approximately half our the rate we pay FGUA. Many of us can literally walk across our street and find our neighbor enjoying a rate roughly half of what we pay for the exact same water/sewer usage. As State Senator Wilton Simpson has stated, “This is ridiculous.”

Water is NOT a luxury. It is a necessity. Seniors on fixed incomes, disabled and the poor need water to survive.
