The Beginnings Early Childhood Centre, an OFSTED "Outstanding" Jewish faith-based nursery in Marylebone, London, is a well established and vital asset to both Jewish and non-Jewish local communities.  Its highly skilful staff provide an exceptionally caring and nurturing environment to babies and young children aged 0-5 years old, from families who are Jewish, Christian, Muslim and of no faith at all.  

The nursery, which is a registered charity, faces imminent closure due to being told to vacate its premises within the West London Synagogue at short notice.  We need Synagogue leaders, who are also trustees of the nursery, to work with parents and staff to find a reasonable solution to avoid fifty-six babies and young children being left without childcare, and fifteen exceptionally dedicated and professional nursery staff losing their jobs.  

There is an acute shortage of full time year-round daycare provision in the area, and no capacity for places for this number of children. Local Jewish parents who wish to educate their children at a Jewish nursery will no longer be able to do so - as the next nearest one catering for this age range is over eight miles away - and will have no choice but to send their children to secular or Church-run nurseries.  

We want the Synagogue to reconsider its decision and commit to assuring the future of the nursery, with a view to its wider responsibilities towards sustaining the Jewish community long term, practicing inclusivity towards Jews of all generations and backgrounds, and encouraging wider community understanding and cohesion in these challenging times.
