Social distancing at 1 metre is achievable. 2 metres will mean closures in the on-trade.

The Issue

Current social distancing recommendations by our government in response to Covid-19 sit at 2 metres. While we understand that any decisions made with regard to Covid-19 are in the interest of our health and safety, 2 metres is death to the hospitality sector.

Many restaurants and cafes will not be able to open with the 2 metre rule. Around the World, a number of countries including Austria, France and Italy have started to open up their hospitality sectors. They are all operating at 1 metre distancing. The World Health Organisation recommends 1 metre distancing.

The amazing quality of our produce, combined with the enthusiasm, passion and talent of our chefs and members of the trade was becoming a reason to visit Ireland. We're a small country, let's not let Covid wipe out all our hard work. Save the hospitality sector. 1 metre NOT 2.
