Don't send our children back to school before it's safe
The Issue
According to an article in the independent the Minister for Health Simon Harris is considering sending children back to school once a week before term ends if it's deemed "safe ".
As a parent of a child in her junior cert year, one who had been working hard since school closed getting up at 8:30 am on school days and working her full school day as if she was at school ,but who will have to return to do project work and sit assessments when she returns instead of starting TY. I am not in favour of reopening schools prematurely.
My daughter is in the at risk category as she is Asthmatic. I would prefer she not return until it was 100 percent safe for her to do so. So I'm asking Simon Harris to stop considering sending them back as it isn't worth it.
It isn't feasible to keep children or teens 2 metres apart like schools in Denmark. Our classrooms are fairly overcrowded
No vaccine is available yet and won't be for some time so how do we protect our vunerable (we stay home)
We would be risking our entire families by sending our children back to school prematurely
Classwork, exams and and the economy are not important enough to risk our teachers, children and families lives for.
As much as our children are missing thier friends no amount of socialising or exams or classwork is worth risking thier health and the health of thier teachers. Should Mr Harris announce soon that my daughter is to return early even for one day a week ( I don't think the virus will care about the timetable) I will not be complying, my daughters safety and the safety of my family is worth more than the economy or exams.
