The Issue
For a number of years my Father Thomas Weir Duncan had prostrate problems and had district nurses around always helping him out . At the end of 2013 and following into 2014 Thomas had some many urine tract infections that he was in and out of hospital and not one did a CT scan on this gentleman as blood was visible and smelly in the caterer bag but he was put on a drip given antibiotics and sent home. Issues were raised with the team at this hospital of Thomas losing a lot of weight and by this time eating was a problem all the family ever heard was he is old and frail, Thomas was 79 years old and before this he was a very active man who loved going around watching cricket and travelling on the buses with his bus pass.Thomas had been seen by consultants when he was in hospital but not one did a CT scan even though they claimed they were worried.Thomas was admitted once again into the same hospital and put on a drip but was very ill we a family continued to raise our concerns and eventually we spoke to the consultant in charge of his care .. we spoke out our concerns and asked if he had cancer , we were told absolutely not he had a uti and was getting out . We were not happy as Thomas was so thin barely could walk and this was not a man just with a uti there was more serious problem but they did not hear us and released him wheeling him out in a wheelchair. 11 days we spent 24 hours with a man who cried out in pain who beg God to take him was not eating or drinking. I had enough on his request I brought him back to the same hospital this time i was not leaving until a CT scan was done on my father. This was done and hours later I was called to the office to be told my Father had two weeks to live .... he had cancer in his liver and kidneys which they could not operate . 11 days prior the same hospital told us they were happy to release him as he only had a uti they lied because of failed diagnoises, misdiagnosed, and due to his age it didn't matter. After his death we called upon a meeting to get answers from all consultants that lied or didn't do enough while he was in their care .. they acted as if it was my father's fault they said they should have done more and this would not happen again but it should not have happen to begin with, my family lied to my father because consultants lied to us and they think that this is acceptable that my family should just accept what happen. If the right tests were done even if they seen untreatable cancer we could have had more time but no let's lie and forget about a families life
