ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) recently announced that if an international student is only enrolled in online classes, they will not legally be able to stay in the US. Transferring is unrealistic and for many international students, returning to their home countries is would disrupt their studies, put them in dangerous situations, and contribute to the spread of the virus.

International students are a valued part of Simmons University and deserve to be here. Simmons University should create an in-person, 1 credit class that is open to international students that meets in-person, while maintaining social distancing precautions. International students should be prioritized for housing if the campus opens in the fall.

The Simmons University Board of Directors should declare sanctuary campus, bar the presence of ICE agents, and have a comprehensive procedure in the event that there is an ICE raid on campus.
