Remove Toy Encouraging Children to Hit Dogs
Remove Toy Encouraging Children to Hit Dogs
The Issue
The new robotic dog toy, Robo Dash, has several responses that the robot responds to. Fetch, chases his tail, responds to petting, and also, worryingly, responds to punishment where the child is encouraged to 'tap' the dog on the head.
As a certified dog behaviourist who has had research on dog bites published, I am more aware than anyone of how the use of physical punishment can result in serious dog bites.
Gone are the days that it is ok to hit a dog, or any animal, and I am calling on Silverlit to either remove this toy from the shelves or modify it so it no longer responds to punishment.
