         OUR CALL FOR PEACE
Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is the foundation of human dignity, security, justice, development, and a shared future.
Gamtaa Qeerroo Dargaggoota Oromoo (GQDO) created and initiated “Silencing the Guns Among Brothers” as a civic peace initiative calling for an end to violence, the protection of civilian life, peaceful dialogue, reconciliation, and sustainable peace in Oromia and throughout Ethiopia.
At the heart of this initiative is a simple but fundamental principle:
No political, social, or ideological disagreement should cost innocent human lives.
Communities across Oromia have experienced the painful consequences of prolonged insecurity and armed conflict. Families have suffered loss and separation, communities have faced displacement and disruption, and young people have grown up amid uncertainty.
Behind every account of conflict is a human being, a mother, father, brother, sister, child, elder, friend, or neighbor.
Continuing cycles of violence cannot provide a sustainable answer to political or social disagreements. Lasting solutions require courage, responsible leadership, meaningful dialogue, mutual respect, reconciliation, and the participation of affected communities.
OUR VISION
GQDO envisions an Oromia where disagreements are addressed through dialogue rather than violence, reconciliation rather than retaliation, and cooperation rather than division.
“Silencing the Guns Among Brothers” therefore calls upon our generation to reject violence as a means of resolving differences and to strengthen peaceful avenues through which grievances, political disagreements, and community concerns can be addressed.
We believe peace must be built through the participation of youth, women, elders, community leaders, religious leaders, civil society, political actors, government institutions, diaspora communities, and other concerned stakeholders.
Peace belongs to everyone, and everyone has a responsibility to protect it.
          
             OUR PRINCIPLES
The “Silencing the Guns Among Brothers” initiative is founded upon the following principles:
       Protection of Human Life
 Civilian life, safety, and human dignity must be respected and protected under all circumstances.
           Dialogue
 Political, social, and community differences should be addressed through peaceful, constructive, and inclusive engagement.
          Reconciliation
 Communities affected by conflict need opportunities to rebuild relationships, restore trust, address grievances peacefully, and heal.
            Unity and Mutual Respect
 Differences in political opinion, background, or perspective should never prevent people from recognizing their shared humanity and common future.
         Youth Participation
 Young people must be empowered as leaders and builders of peace and given meaningful opportunities in education, leadership, development, and economic life.
     OUR CALL TO ACTION
GQDO respectfully calls upon government institutions, political leaders, community elders, religious leaders, civil society organizations, youth and women’s organizations, diaspora communities, armed actors, and all peace-loving people to place the protection and future of our people above division.
We call upon all concerned parties to:
1. Protect civilians and respect human dignity under all circumstances.
2. Reject violence against civilians and actions that deepen fear, hatred, displacement, or division.
3. Prioritize peaceful and inclusive dialogue as the principal means of resolving political and social disagreements.
4. Support reconciliation and community-based peacebuilding capable of rebuilding trust and addressing grievances peacefully.
5. Strengthen the participation of youth, women, elders, and communities in peacebuilding and conflict-resolution processes.
6. Promote responsible public communication and reject incitement, dehumanization, misinformation, and rhetoric that encourages violence.
7. Create meaningful opportunities for young people to contribute to peace, education, economic development, and responsible leadership.
8. Work toward sustainable peace founded upon dignity, inclusion, mutual respect, accountability, and peaceful coexistence.
      A NONPARTISAN CALL FOR  HUMANITY
This initiative is not intended to promote one political organization, government institution, armed group, or ideological position against another.
■ It is a call for humanity above hostility and peace above violence.
■ It calls for dialogue instead of gunfire, reconciliation instead of retaliation, understanding instead of hatred, and cooperation instead of division.

   OUR SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
To our youth, elders, mothers, fathers, community leaders, Abba Gadaa, and Hadha Siqqee, intellectuals, professionals, religious leaders, political actors, civil society organizations, and members of the diaspora:
The responsibility for peace belongs to all of us.
■ Our differences should never erase our shared humanity.
■ Our disagreements should never justify the destruction of communities or the loss of innocent lives.
■ Our generation has both an opportunity and a responsibility to help create a different future; a future where young people inherit opportunity rather than conflict, communities rebuild trust rather than deepen division, and disagreements are addressed through words rather than weapons.

》Let our shared commitment to peace become stronger than the forces that perpetuate conflict.
