Silence is Betrayal: Force CBC to report on horrors in Palestine, and call it genocide
The Issue
1. CBC refuses to show or describe in-depth the genocide of Palestinians.
This profoundly twists public understanding of what is actually happening and the history of the situation.
People are left to do their own research or not know. While this is expected from private, biased and for-profit media corporations, it is wrong from publicly funded journalism. CBC's purpose is to give in-depth reporting and analysis, to show to us what we don't already know and it is failing in this situation.
Motaz Azaiza, photojournalist employed by UNRWA, documents the crisis daily. CBC gives almost no coverage to these ongoing atrocities documented by him or other Palestinians. Demand that CBC refer to and describe the things witnessed by this and similar on-the-ground coverage.
2. CBC wrongly calls this war, not genocide.
Irving Horowitz and Mark Levene distinguishes between armed conflicts and genocide by the moment at which the aggressor's aim in an armed civil conflict turns from defeating the enemy to a systematic effort to destroy them.
The fact that (as of Jan 02, '24):
-over 22 K civilians have been killed, over 10 K children,
-over 8 K civilians are lost under the rubble or unaccounted for,
-over 57 000 K civilians are injured
-bombing of hospitals, schools, refugee camps, churches
-over 1.9 Mil civilians are displaced, living in tents, on the verge of starvation, almost no running water almost medical supplies
-very limited food and aid getting in
-bombing of museums and mosques and historical sites
And much more, shows that this is a genocide and not a war, done to unarmed civilians.
