The Issue

Pet And Wildlife Sanctuaries is a 501c3 animal rescue organization that establishes and operates protected animal sanctuaries that welcome all species and breeds, both wild and domestic.

Our first, current, and only location is a home-based operation that focuses primarily on domestic animals, but assists local wildlife rehabilitators with overnight care and transport, when needed.

The current sanctuary, PAWS Delaware, is home to dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits, and reptiles. The open spaces are also home to foxes, squirrels, skunks, possums, and countless birds.

This sanctuary, while serene and peaceful, is located within the deed-restricted community of Stonebridge. A portion of the land that the sanctuary sits on has been the subject of a litigation since July 2020. The entire property has been exclusively maintained and controlled by the owner(s) of 457 Stonebridge Blvd. New Castle, DE 19720, since October 1992, and is the subject of an Adverse Possession Claim. To thwart our claim of Adverse Possession, the HOA, through its counsel, has now asserted that Pet And Wildlife Sanctuaries is a nuisance to the community and exposing the community to aggressive animals and rubbish/debris - none of which is true. The Property and Sanctuary are located in the rear of the community and all animals are kept within the fenced in perimeter. Furthermore, no animals that come here pose a risk to myself, or any of the community members. Animal Control and their welfare officer(s) have visited on multiple occasions and found no issues whatsoever. They have met the animals and verified that all are in ideal condition and well vetted and cared for. For routine vetting, we use Faithful Friends, BVSPCA - New Castle, and for specialty care we have used Blue Pearl Pet Hospital, Pinnacle Veterinary Specialists, and Hickory Animal Hospital.

While we plan on expanding to a much larger Sanctuary in the future, raising the necessary funds will take some time. For now, our current location is vital to our mission and rescue efforts. Not only is the HOA seeking to take a significant portion of the land that makes up the current property, but they are also seeking to stop Pet And Wildlife Sanctuaries from operating. This would not only put dozens of our current animals at risk, but it would prevent us from continuing the important and necessary rescue work that has already resulted in helping more than 200 animals this year!!

Please sign the petition to show your support for Pet And Wildlife Sanctuaries and to demonstrate your desire to see our work continue in its current state and location until a larger sanctuary can be obtained in the future, as we have always planned.
