I'm respectfully requesting Governor Mike DeWine and/or Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro to vacate my void 2013 plea and grant me a fair hearing. At 21, terrified and facing the death penalty, I was evaluated by a court-appointed doctor who was under criminal indictment for fraud — he pleaded guilty to that fraud just one month before I was pressured into my guilty plea, yet his word on my competence was never questioned. I was heavily medicated, and I told the court I truly didn't understand what was going on. There was a strong possibility I was incompetent, yet the court never ordered a second evaluation. Fourteen years of my life are gone. My supporters believe this plea is unconstitutional and void under Ohio law — that a fair process would have meant involuntary manslaughter, not life without parole.
