For years and years the “Hanging Tree” located in Monticello, FL has been a reminder to the citizens of the ruthless and racist acts that took place involving our ancestors. Til this very day, that same tree remains on the corner, just outside of the county courthouse. Reminding the family members, friends, and those throughout the community of those that were hung from it. I’m urging the people to sign this petition, that way we can show the community leaders that we want this tree removed. Join the movement and enforce change by requesting the removal of this lynching tree. 

It is up to us to do what our parents and ancestors couldn’t do. This was based on the fact that so many of them didn’t know how to read or write. Also, they were limited on what they could voice their opinion(s) on. Now, it’s time to be the voice for them and request change not later, but NOW!
