Afternoon I'm sure those of you who wrote to the Premiers office received a response to the effect of "NSW, along with other States and Territories, follows the Australian Government in matters of flag protocol etc". Well here's what a National Symbols Officer from the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet has advised. "Flag protocol is based on long standing practice for respectful and dignified use of flags in Australia and its territories. It is not a matter of law. There are times when flags are requested to be flown, for example the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flags during NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week. However, it is a matter for the individual or organisation who is responsible for flagpoles at a location as to which flags are flown at that site." It is a matter of choice, and choosing to NOT fly the Aboriginal flag 365 days a year is the choice that the Premier has made. I suggest this... Let's write to the Premier and request that she not follow protocol and that she make a decision based on the 83,000 community views and to recognise Aboriginal culture and respect Aboriginal people in 2018. To make contact follow this link to complete the online form: https://www.nsw.gov.au/contact-us/contact-the-premier/ Australian, NSW, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags flying together on top of the Sydney Harbour bridge, signifying unity.
