And I say that not because of their support shown toward this campaign, but for this statement made by former Labour Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, which I know Luke Foley can commit to "Promote equality, to involve the people of Australia in the decision-making processes of our land, and to liberate the talents and uplift the horizons of the Australian people." Afternoon I wanted to share Mr Foley's dedication and with his added support, we will reach our goal in obtaining 10,000 signatures to address into the NSW Parliament. Here's what Mr Foley has to say.. I was delighted to stand with Cheree Toka and announce that if Labor is elected to government next year, the Aboriginal Flag will fly permanently on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The great arch defines Sydney right around the world – and for the Aboriginal flag to fly on top of this icon would be a unifying gesture up there with Cathy Freeman’s lap of honour in 2000, where she proudly flew the National flag and the Indigenous flag together. Currently, the Aboriginal flag only flies on top of the Australian icon for 15 days of the year: during NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week and on Australia Day. Flying the Aboriginal Flag permanently is a small but significant step on that road that we have to walk together - the road of reconciliation between indigenous Australians and non-indigenous Australians. Labor’s promise to fly the Aboriginal flag follows my commitment made at the Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council 80th Anniversary 1938 Day Of Mourning, to establish a Treaty process, in the event Labor forms a government in 2019, between the government of New South Wales and the State’s Aboriginal peoples. I want to congratulate Cheree for her commitment and her campaigning leadership on this issue. I am proud to stand with Cheree to recognise and celebrate every day the history and culture of the First Australians. - Luke Foley Let's keep fighting our way through these obstacles! We will eventually succeed! Thanks Cheree
