The official Victorian Parliamentary petition—the one that actually counts—is now just shy of 8,000 signatures. Our target is 10,000+. Each signature represents a Victorian who has submitted their name, address, and a formal objection to the proposed $100,000 taxpayer-funded statue of Daniel Andrews.
NO DECENT VICTORIAN WANTS THIS STATUE TO GO AHEAD
Labor plans to lock it away in Parliament’s gardens—out of public view—to avoid the embarrassment of it being vandalised or defaced. That says everything.
Update from Parliament:
Back on February 4th, MP Moira Deeming formally requested Premier Jacinta Allan for details:
- Has a statue of former Premier Daniel Andrews been planned?
- If so, has construction started?
- What is the estimated cost, and where will it be located?
Jackson Moon, the official Parliamentary petition organiser, made similar enquiries. Neither of us has received a response. The Premier was legally required to reply to Ms Deeming by March 6th—that deadline is now 72 days overdue.
That’s not leadership. That’s tone-deaf.
And still—Jacinta Allan refuses to answer. So the question is: what is the Premier hiding this time?
The proposed statue has struck a nerve across Victoria. Many rightly believe that others—like Les Twentyman, Professor Michael Murphy, Neale Daniher, Uncle Jack Charles, and Deborah Lawrie—are far more deserving of such an honour. These are people whose contributions have left a real, lasting mark.
The message from Victorians is loud and clear: This statue is out of step with public sentiment and community values.
