In a horrific act of animal cruelty, a man in Adelaide, Australia allegedly shot a cat named Max in the head with a crossbow.

When Max’s owner, Renny Goodwin, saw the arrow sticking out of Max’s head, she rushed him to surgery. At the vet’s office, she learned that the arrow just narrowly missed his brain.

Renny was shocked that somebody could do such a cruel thing to an animal. “I wouldn’t want anyone to deal with what we went through,” she told The Advertiser. “If the arrow had have been in a slightly different position, he wouldn’t have come home.”

Thankfully, it seems like Max is going to be okay. But the next animal harmed by this cruel man may not be as lucky.

The man who shot Max was charged with possession of prohibited weapons. He’s now out on bail and will appear before the court on June 14th. Shockingly, the man was not charged with a single count of animal cruelty.

Australia’s Animal Welfare Act says that a person found guilty of aggravated animal mistreat can be fined $50,000 or face up to four years in jail. But the man who shot Max will not face these punishments if no cruelty charges are filed.

Shooting a cat with an arrow is clearly animal cruelty, and the man who shot Max deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law -- and never be allowed to possess an animal for the rest of his life.

Sign this petition to tell prosecutors to file animal cruelty charged for this heinous crime at once.
