Turn the Apple logo "purple" in November since it's Pancreatic Disease and Cancer Awareness month!!
The Issue
Mr. Cook,
We are signing this petition asking your company to turn the Apple logo "purple" for the month of November in memory of Steve Jobs, those who are currently fighting this disease and for those who have already earned their purple wings!
Steve Jobs may be gone, but the disease that killed him is unfortunately still with us. Jobs' ability to persist and continue to work in face of such odds is yet another reason why he was one in a billion. We can help others have the same fighting chance by supporting research to help curb and cure pancreatic cancer, with earlier detection methods and better treatments.
I am one of the lucky ones......a survivor!! However I have alot of internet friends in the various PC and Whipple Procedure groups who have lost loved ones to this devastating disease!! And your company knows first hand how horrible it can be!!
According to the American Cancer Society 2014 Facts, of the 46,420 people diagnosed with PC over 39,590 will die from the disease. And that is only in the United States not internationally. The survival rate has not increased significantly for over 40 years. PC is the 4th leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. The disease has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers with 94% of the patients dying within 5 years of being diagnosed. 74% of the patients will die within the first year of diagnosis.
According to the NCI Annual Report and Budget Proposal for 2012, they spent only $105.3 million on PC research. This represented only 1.8% of their approximate $5.8 BILLION cancer research budget.
For the reasons listed above, we are asking you to turn the Apple logo "purple" for the entire month of November!! Please help us raise awareness of PC thus in turn increasing funding/fundraiser opportunities along with furthering education in the medical sector since the symptoms of the disease can mimic other conditions of the abdominal and GI tracts.
Thank you!
